Rautavaara is a small municipality located in the northeast part of Northern Savonia. About 100km from Kuopio and less than an hour’s drive from Tahko, the scenery shifts into the rugged forests, aapa mires, and crystal-clear waters of Rautavaara. The are offers memorable hiking routes in Tiilikkajärvi National Park, pristine berry and mushroom picking grounds, excellent fishing waters along with the unique natural sandy beaches.

The unique Pumpulikirkko formation, the cracked giant’s kettle (hiidenkirnu), and the far-reaching views over lakes from the Kipari Observation Tower make every visit truly memorable. The landscape changes with the seasons especially in autumn, when the vibrant fall colors create breathtaking scenery. In winter, well-maintained cross-country ski trails and snowmobile routes extending from Tahko to Rautavaara rank among the best in the region.
