Mountain Biking in Tahko, Kuopio and North Savo

The varied terrain of North Savo is perfect for mountain bikers of all levels in both summer and winter. The most challenging routes provide exciting endurance tests to active bikers and easier trips are perfect for enjoying the area’s beautiful scenery. 

Kuopio area and its nature is equally suitable for pro bikers and beginners, with plenty of companies offering different courses and guided trips, where you can learn the techniques and secrets of mountain biking. Held yearly, Tahko MTB, the largest mountain biking event in Finland, brings around 2,000 mountain bikers together. 

Tahko is definitely a mountain biker’s dream destination, where lovers of the bike are spoiled with a well-marked and versatile route selection. With routes up to 200 meters in height, and a Bike Park, there are challenging routes perfect for goal-oriented training. Also worth checking out are the many routes in the areas of Kuopio Neulaniemi-Kolmisoppi and Puijo, Etelä-Konnevesi and Tiilikkajärvi national parks.

Mountain biking doesn’t stop in the winter

In the winter, popular eFatbikes with extra boost provided by electric assistance, are an excellent way to enjoy the snowy landscape of the lakeland winter wonderland. Bikes can be rented daily for self-guided and guided tours.

If you want to go off route, Finnish everyman’s rights make it possible to bike almost everywhere in nature, although some national parks may have some restrictions to biking. In unknown areas we’d recommend marked routes, following the maps and enjoying meals and breaks along the way.
